Dr Peter Hurford OBE (1930-2019)
The Master and Fellows are saddened by the news that Dr Peter Hurford OBE (1949) and Honorary Fellow (2006), passed away on 3rd March 2019.
A world-renowned organist and composer, Dr Hurford studied both Music and Law in his time at Jesus. From 1958 to 1978 he served as Master of Music at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban and Conductor of the St Albans Bach Choir. During his time in the city, he also founded the famous St Albans International Organ Festival. He made numerous albums, and is well known for playing the complete Bach organ works amongst his many other recordings.
The date of memorial service to be held at St Albans Cathedral is to be announced.
